I know there are a lot of these out there but i would rather find errors now then when it's build.

I plan to build this all out of acrylic. The water will come into the back chamber, then flow up and over into the first filter sock that will be sitting in the tray, then down and back up to flow onto the next filter sock of a smaller micron size.

Now the water turns and flows over the biomedia which will be paitially exsposed to air. After that it will be in the main chamber with heats and anything else i decide to use, mostly for keeping nitrates down.

Total voulme is about 60 gallons. This will be filltering my 180 gallon red eared slider tank. My main focus is mech filtration. I though this way i can have tow sock like a 100 and 50 which can be changed out easy and quick since she is very messy. The bio area will be plenty for just her.

i like it!
i would put a bigger micron size first though, that way the filter socks will be doing equal work. with a 100 and a 50 i think the first will get pretty much get everything. i would also dedicate more space to bio just cause there will be so much empty room in the sump and more bio is always better :)

Thanks, yeah figured 100 in the first and 50 in the second. But yeah you got it, i was trying to come up with a design that lighted the load on the socks cause turtle are messy! I figured that way i don't have to change them out ass often, might bump up to a 200 if the 100 gets dirty to fast.

The bio area can hold a total of 1.5 gallons which i plan on using 5 liters of Substrat Pro and toping it off with bio balls. This should plenty since it's jsut the turtle and any algea eater that can stay away. Right now i have a fluval 404 and each tray is about 1/2 to 3/4 full of ceramic and eheim substrat, with zero ammonia and nitrates.

At 7.5 inches she still has 3 inches or so to grow so i'm sure that will be plenty of bio, and if not i can put some more in the last baffel.

I know the last chamber is large but for evaporation and possible automated/quick water changes this will help. Also nitrates get high fast so this large sump will help get my water volume up to 230ish wich will help dilute.
