I know this is a hassle, but can some people post a few pictures of their sump or wet/dry systems? I have a 30 gallon tank I'm going to use as the sump for a 150 gallon tank. My question is mostly on baffle placement, height and chamber size. I'd like to put a prefilter on the sump intake tubes, run that into a chamber, overflow that chamber onto a drip tray into biomedia, and then run the water into a chamber for the return pump to tank. The tank is 36" long, 11 3/4" wide and 16" tall.
I've looked on Google images, and throughout the DIY forum and Filtration forum. Everyone seems different; does placement and chamber size really matter then? This is the last thing holding up my next tank. I just want it to be right, and effective. Thanks

I posted this in set up and filtration as well.

It sounds like you have a good over all plan. Your chamber sizes will just happen. You only have so much to work with so start with the pre-filter and work your way to the pump. It would be nice to have this size or that size but it never happens. I wish I could be more help.
Get your pre-filter set up for ease of maintenance, you need to be able to change those fast and easy. Then maximize your bio-media. The more media out of the water the better. Keep your sump area, where the pump is, as small as possible, just enough room for the pump and maybe a heater if your running that in the sump.

Good luck

so far this is the best sump ive ever had running.. ive gone all out and done sumps with several chambers and bubble walls and all sorts of fancy stuff that worked great but the slightest lil thing would screw up the whole world...

make a box for your pump out of egg crate and wrap it with a few layers of polyfill... add another later of egg crate... hook up your plumbing and the pump is done..
take a piece of 1.5" pvc and cut it to the length of your heater.. drill or cut a whole bunch of holes/slits in it.. ziptie the heater inside of it and place it next to the pump..
add a few layers of scrubbies and a layer of polyfill then more layers of scrubbies..
add some sort of a drip plate then add more scrubbies, polyfill and call it done..

if you want you can add ceramic rings/magic rocks/straws/whatever wherever you want.. im pretty sure ive got a few bags of rings dumped in the sump as well i just dont remember anymore.. im pretty sure theres also whatever pc fittings i didnt bother to remove...

this is another sump i had running for a long time.. it also worked great.. i was pushing 650+ gph though that lil 20long before i finally figured i was overdoing it and added the T and ballvalve to send some of the water back into the sump..
