Hi all,

Im currently redesigning my fish tank from scratch, ive got a new 200lr bow tank that allready has got holes pre-drilled into the bottom, great for a sump I thought

so, my question is:

1 Is the standared waste pipe from B&Q and wickes etc safe to use as the main water runs?

2 what type of sealent should I use to bond these pipes together, ive heard about weld on, but in the UK its hard to come by, will any off the shelf pipe bond work?

Many thanks to everyone who replys

the pipe and sealent will be fine.

Many thanks

I did hear that some waste pipe can leak toxins back into the tank, but that post was from a few years back

Is this correct?

i personally would not risk using waste pipe for the few £s you will save , you can use pond pipe fittings and bulkheads . should only cost you about £20 all in . if your anywhere near notts id call in to wharf aquatics they stock everything you could ever need. my lfs

The vast majority of the stuff that B&Q and wicks sell is 32 or 40 mm,what size are the holes in the base of the tank as that will decide the size of the bulkheads and pipe that can be used. Also a lot of it will be push fit,not ideal for a sump IMO
As long as PVC U it will be ok to use on your tank,LFS prices are crazy for plumbing.
Normal PVC cement will give you the moset secure bond should be available from most DIY shops.
Have a look here as they have everything you need and will be loads cheaper than any LFS

This is where I will be getting all the plumbing I need for my new tank.
