yesterday, i had a 280g (6'lx3'wx2't) with a 40g sump running at 1400gph and a fx5. today, i have a fx5, broken sump and a hardwood floor with a wet rug under a ton of fish tank. im fed up with this damn sump, this is my 3rd tank to have a sump and each have had some flooding issue. not doing sumps anymore.

i have an fx5 on the tank, one on the way and will eventually get one more this summer.

i have a whisper 150 air pump and some no name powerhead that pushes about 600-800gph, seems like its a little more powerful than my fx5.

stock includes:
16" niger cat
9" irwini cat
ten 3" blood parrots ( with thin them out as they grow)
a dozen 3" clown loaches
six 3" yoyo loaches

id like about 12-18 more clown loaches, 2-3 severums and a few other small fish inder 3:

i have a fx5 on my 120 and ive had it packed pretty think with fish before getting the bigger tank. im satisfied with the results on my 120 but i have no experience with these filters on larger tanks. anyone have 2-3 fxs running a larger tank? good or bad results?

hmm. what happened to your return pump? a siphon break would of easily prevented your sump from flooding..
but im not familiar with your setup so maybe im wrong.

My friend had two fx5 on a 240 and it seems to work fine.

1st flood happened when my arowana decided to sleep across my over flow. tank overflowed, $1100 in damages
2nd flood, ornate bichir went for a dive down my intake, found his way to my return pump, clogged it up. $900 in damage charges from apartment management.
3rd flood, this time my sump tank busted along the back. im guessing it leaked for 3-4 days before we noticed it. ruined my hardwood floors. cant move tank so i will deal with it one day down the road.

ive always been happy with the simplicity of canister filters and i love the fx5 on my 120

not enough room between wall and tank for a h.o.b.

Dang thats rough. Id go 2 ac110, 2 fx5, and a good uvc.

And as long as you have an abundance of BB/biofiltration i can see this working.

Why not.just learn how to appropriately size a sump for your tank and keep the water at the correct level? Theres no reason for flooding except for the last issue w the sump breaking.
