Hello,

I'm going to be setting up a 72x30x24 Freshwater aquarium and looking to get some advice on the equipment 'Mainly in the sump' that I will be using.

What do you think?
Lighting - x2 Twin 72" T8 units
Substrate - Sand (Anyone UK recommendations?)
x2 TMC Reef pump 12000 DC (L206mm x W93mm x H177mm) for return + Supply reactors + UV. It can be a backup pump for my main return too?!
x2 Eheim 200W heaters (406mm)
x2/4 200 micron sock filters
Filter media (Bagged) - Seachem matrix/Fluval biomax rings. No preference, any better options out there? Would a marinepure block be better?
x2 Marine Sources FBF1600 reactors (x1 for biopellets/ x1 for anything else)
V2 Vecton 600 UV

Ohhhhhhhh Also - What do people use to clean the inside glass with?! I have heard people using shower scrubbers etc. Any recommendations?

I have no real preference to any specific item, does anyone have any better options for roughly the same price as these?

Thanks everyone!!!

I would highly recommend a heater controller to reduce the risk for when heaters malfunction. Ranco, Bluebird or Finnex are brands folks use. Personally I go more than 400watts, but that depends on your room temp and your preferences.

I know it's costly setting up a new tank, but I reconsider T8 espeically for the longterm. I just recently upgraded to LED from T5HO and I really like the shimmering effects not to mention needing to replace bulbs for successfully growing plants. Just something to think about inthe long run.

I've dont know much about TMC Reef Pump DC, but DC is the way to go. There are other brands based onnhow much you want to spend and gph needed.

Thanks DN328,

I will have a look into a heater controller - no idea on cost's etc. I was planning to upgrade equipment and future upgrades of a GHL profilux or neptune system to assist with controlling everything!!! but thats probably a year or more after setting up the tank due to cost implications

Check out the InkBird heater controller on Amazon. It’s $35, easily programmed, and can handle 1000W.
