So I'm in the process of building about a 16 tank system made of 14 20 highs and 2 29 gallon tanks have an old 75 I re sealed and turned into the sump. The water first is filtered through a filter sock then in the a trickle tower made of 5 gallon buckets the top is drilled with a ton of holes and has poly fiber on the top then it's packed with pot scrubbers and bio balls from there it enter the tank which is packed with ton of lava rock then back to
The pump and into the manifold image.jpeg

You could make the top of the sump level with the fish tanks. This prevents power out overflows! If you do something like this make the sump so that it never fills up completely.

With that many tanks the more the beneficial bacteria the better so more media. I don't think a 75 gallon sump would be ideal for a 300+ gallon tank. Yes it'll work but the bigger the better.

Good point I have a buddy of mine who has no lie 32 10-20 gallon tanks to a 55 and it just reaches the top but a 75 was all I have at the moment I guess i could always upgrade later

Yeah it'll work no doubt but like us all once you do something normally we don't go ahead and upgrade for a while lol

PM me when you do. I have two matching acrylic sumps that would be perfect for your application and are already plumbed for four inlets per sump in 1.5". Bulkheads included. I have cheap media as well. I agree you need more than a 75 and certainly more bio capacity.

You likely know this but food for thought; the number of tanks isn't actually a good comparison or indicator of what your sump is capable of handling. It's more of how much total water volume will return to that 55 gallon when the return pump is off. And that will depend on how your filters/drains are set up on all your tanks. It may not be identical to how your friend has it set up. Good luck.
