Just filled my tank, fired up the sump, and its making a gurgling sound.

I saw a similar problem on here before, but can't find it nor remember what the problem was. please help asap.

Well i followed it and its coming from the sump(some from the overflow too though) it seems air is causing bubbling.

This is the sump:

See how the intake has to be fully submerged? it's bubbling up from that.

Is air suppose to be in the intake?

Is water suppose to be at the same level or above the two safty holes on the top of the intake?

could it be to shallow?

Anyone?

The intake or return should be above the water level. It looks like that sump is meant to be run as a wet/dry with the water level at the bottom of the bio-balls.

Ya it is, but the first section, with the skimmer part has to be deep enough to get to the top of the ball part, so it can flow into the filter pad. see what i mean?

still a problem.

and something is leaking...

Your overflow is probably just sucking in some air with the water. My overflow makes gurgling noises every now and then and so do others I've seen. I have a screen over the overflow on my tank so it doesn't suck any small fish down it and the only times it isn't making noise is when java moss or extra food starts to build up and there is no chance of air to get in the pipes. If you have a leak though perhaps your connections aren't plumb and some air is getting through there.

Sumps will almost always make some noise from time to time. Gurggling in included... and my alltime favorite, the booming - when you sleep.

Can you raise or lower your overflow?
