Sump Heater in 300 gallon

building a 300 gallon tank real soon and just lining up the accessories.

i will have a sump 50-75 gallon tied into system and just wondering the following from people who have done this in the past.

who makes the best 500 watt plus heater titanium with controller

also in glass......if available

is a 500 watt adequate for above build or would a 1000 watt be better....or any other options for heating...i have fronts and want about a 76-78 degrees water temprature

I would run 2 heaters instead of just 1; always good to have redundancy.

What size is the sump? You only need a heater big enough to heat the sump water.

interesting.....did not know that all you had to do was heat the sump tank water only.....what type of titanium heaters with contollers do people like to use????

i never knew that... so my 700 watts of heating for my 180 plus 50ish gallon sump is way OTT? Would it not depend somewhat on the flow? I have about 10x total volume turnover, would the water not pass too quickly through the sump to heat properly at lower wattages? Sorry to divert from the original question. Ive heard good things about WEIPRO heaters/controllers. they are available in 500 or 1000 watt from ebay. thats if you dont mind stuff from hong kong. BUT I dont know if they are available in US compatible 110v

The water will get heated one way or the other. It will be heated as it flows through each time. I still like the double heater method in case one fails. So if you have 40 gallon sump, 2-150 or 200 watt heaters would suffice

I have had good results running Eheim Jager heaters on a Ranco (ETC) temperature controller but I have also heard good things about the titanium heaters they sell:

I have 2 300w jagrs on my 300 in my sump. Keeps me at 81.5-83 with no trouble.

And there's no reason that I'm aware of to buy a titanium heater for a sump. Why spend the extra cash unless you know you're clumsy and might break it? I only use Ti in situations where breakage is an issue; like a big fish smashing into it.
