RHODE ISLAND
I'm not much of a poster here but a bigtime lurker, I have a 150 freshwater with an Fx5 and a marineland tidepool 2 sump on it, I want to ditch the Tidepool 2 sump and replace it with a 30 gallon wet/dry sump I'm diy'ing. I have a couple of questions I appreciate the help and am thankful in advance. This is the sump I'm working on DSCN1868.JPG

1. I'm using a Deep Blue Triton 5 pump, It's rated at 1350 GPH. I'm thinking of coming out of the pump with a 1" ball valve to vinyl tubing then going into a Y fitting and changing over to 3/4 PVC and going to 2 different returns to the tank one on each end.Does that sound like it will work? Also am I better off buying the returns prefabedhttp://www.marinedepot.com/ps_viewitem.aspx?idproduct=FT0001&child=FT0001&gclid=CP_1sbnwnq8CFYbe4AodSDtTZQ or should I make my own out of pvc 90's.

2. For my overflow boxes I'm waiting on an aqueon overflow box http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036RXOPM/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details It's rated at 2200 GPH, It has 2 outputs,And I also have an Eshopps PF-300 for a second overflow box, I want 2 overflow boxes so that It helps clean up different areas of my tank, the 3 pipes coming back to the sump I'm not sure if It's a good idea to come into the top of my wet/dry drawers 3 different places at the top drawer or if I should just join all 3 to a larger size pipe. I'm thinking 3 will do a better job to disperse the water

3. Will this sump be enough to filter a moderately stocked 150 or will I still need to keep the FX5 on it? I do have a second Triton 5 as a backup but was also thinking of power consumption.

Thanks for reading through my thread and Thanks in advance for any help in setting this up.

On my 100 gallon tank I had a 20 gallon sump with wet/dry filtration similar to yours. I found with my slightly overloaded tank I still needed a fluval 405 just to keep the water polished for clarity. If you think the sump will be enough, you can try with out the fx5, then add it in if water quality starts to tank.

Thanks tomomothy, actually it's up and running now for a week, nitrates went down and steady for the week, water is crystal. Only problems are polishing pads were clogging so I just swapped them out for filter floss, I'll see how that works out. Lots of evaporation too so I need a cover on the sump.
