I built a plywood box with intentions on using it as a sump.. original plan was to have it like a "normal" sump with baffles and whatnot, but I feel it's too small to use that method and still have it be beneficial.. Also, the sump is like 20-30 gallons.. I bought a 20 tall tank off CL and it wouldn't fit in my stand, so that is why I just went plywood.. plus I thought it'd be a neat little project..

Sump has water just sitting in it in my garage.. prolly let it sit for about a week just to make sure it's holding water...

But here is how I planned on designing my sump..........

You can see the "IN" which is where the water will be coming into the sump..
Then there will simply just be a huge "filter sock" (green squiggly lines) (not sure what exactly I should use for this.. thinking maybe a pillow case? but i don't know.. need some help there also..) that kind of covers the inside of the tank.. kind of like a pond liner.. if that makes sense...
Then you can see where the pump is..
The Red box will be egg crate, and it will surround the pump so that the filter sock does not get sucked to the pump.. kinda like when you stick a vacuum to your shirt? if you're following me.. lol
Then the return...

Soooo.. what does everyone think?
I'm open to other ideas if people would like to share them.. I just need a design/idea for a smaller sump

Also, ignore this photo VVVVVV I don't know how to get it outta here...

you would have to keep the "filter sock" from forming up against the sump walls cause then no water will move through those sections.

Oh yeahhh /: ideas on how to do that?

you would have to create some sort of cage to keep it off the sump walls.
my idea would be to use malata filter. cut it up and make sort of an inner wall to lay the "sock filter" on top of. but im wondering, what would the filter sock be made of? what kinda fabric can u use that's big enough?

Another question I had.. I didn't know if a big pillow case would work or not? Not sure... starting to think this isn't the best idea /:

I find it is good to have extra filter socks, they tend to get plugged every few days, and I put the reserve ones in while flushing out or bleaching the plugged ones.
A pillow case would probably fall apart in a very short time depending on flow rate. My pump is around 1800gph in this barrel sump.
