I have a box overflow with a diy sump I made. The problem I am have is keeping the pump from empting the sump and sucking air. I did put a valve to restrict water flow from the pump, but it never seems to fail that the pump empties the sump and sucks air. I dont know if I have it set up right to begin with. Any good videos out there one seting and over flow system up?

You don't want to restrict the pump down. Instead run a T fitting and a ball valve to dump some of the water back in the sump. This way the pump is free flowing but not putting all the water back up to the display tank.
Other wise you need more drainage.

You want the water to come out of the tank faster then it is going in.

You need a bigger, or another overflow line.

Or you can get a smaller pump, or do a T that recirculates it.

Also, how much water is in your sump. If I had your problem, I would have a ton of water overflowing out of my tank.
