I picked up a 65 gal tank a few weeks ago and I filled the tank up to make sure it didnt leak. I am making a sump for this tank, and my landlord really doesnt want her new hardwood floors messed up. I am going to put a hole in my return hose to my main tank just a inch or so below the water so it doesnt back siphon. I know there is about 8 lbs per gallon so im looking at about 520 lbs with just my 65 plus the weight of the glass. And my 20L sump if it was completely full would weigh about 160 lbs so about 700-750 lbs:eek:. Does anyone have hardwood floors who could tell me whether i need to worry about cracking the floor? And is there anything I could put under my tank to make my landlord more confident that her floors will not be ruined? Any help would be much appreciated

Ive got my 90gal sitting on hardwood floor, granted there is 6" tile under the wood... i dont know if that makes a difference but it seems to hold up pretty well... It's also got about a 20 gal sump on it... To prevent backflow on mine i just installed one of those 1" 1-way pvc fitting.... works like a charm!

heres an old pic of the tank, still on the wood floors:

no that's an all glass tank >< was super heavy carrying it in there... and the trim is all granite lined and silicone'd to the case... which makes it that much heavier... but haven't had any problems...

shouldnt have any problems on the soft tubing, the way the previous owner had the tank set up they had a soft tube from the pump to some pvc in the back that leads back to the overflow corner. So i found it easier to put the one way on the pvc for the return tube.

I lined the inside of my 360 stand with a rubber sheet used for shower floor pans. Any leak or spill inside the stand is held in the rubber sheet. It's under the sump. It runs up about 4 inches all around the inside of my stand. I still end up spilling on the outside of the stand lol, but that's noticed right away and wiped up asap.

Any new set ups of mine will have this liner for sure.
