anybody ever put their sumps on the floor below the tank? I'm thinking of putting my filter in the basement since I can't fit one the size I want under the tank. There will be a few turns in the piping since it won't be directly below. Will this work????

you will need a super strong pump to get it back to the tank. Also, I dont know if you will be able to keep the temperature constant with all that piping. I could be wrong though.

You would have to have a killer pump, If you insulate the piping and heat the sump you may be able to make it work. It would be interesting thats for sure!

It would probablly be around 10 to 15 feet of pvc I would put the heaters in the sump. Any recommendations on pumps??

dolphin or sequence pumps both have models that can acheive a very high head but look out for the power usage. Some can draw over 10 or 12 amps, but they will push the water.

well, what size is the tank? Can you elevate the sump of the floor safely to maybe cut down on a few feet of piping. This could make all the difference in the world.

No matter where your pump is, you need an accurate measurement of the length and width of the plumbing from the pump outlet to the tankto determine the amount of head of your system. Then, you need to shop for a pump that can deliver the flow rate you want at the tank outlet after that amount of head.
Check the site: aquaticeco.com since they carry pumps from the hobbyist level to the commercial level. They also provide many tech specs to help you find what you need.

Not a bad idea at all! And on top of that you could make a shelf for all the crap you need below it. Extra filter material, chemicals medications, breeders.... the list can go on and on.

I'm thinking of using a 55g and putting it on a stand. Can I put the overflow and the return next to each other and just have the return elbow and jet out opposite of the overflow? This would probably cut down on 6 feet or so
