Hey guys, another question concerning my new tank: it has a sump! ive never worked with sumps before on my own tanks but know how it works. i do have a question about filter media to put in there. Its a 100*40*40 sump which can be half filled with media, so 80 laters. one part will be for the pump so effective around 60L media and 10L foam or something.
What shall i put in there? I have a big bag with ceramic pipes but i migt be able to get the plastic pipes with larger surface area. Is it wise to put blue foam and pipes in first and some sort of fine media like substrat pro (eheim) in the last 2? any suggestions on maybe cheaper but decent ways to fill this thing are welcome.
Btw, im planning to add a trickling filter and maybe some pvc pipes with plants under the tank too. The pipes will be half cut open with lights above to grow some surface plants and remove nitrates. what do you think?
futhermore the tank will keep the current 2260 cannister to add some more media.

sounds like you have a good plan, but just use pot scrubbers for media. If you cant find those, floor scrubbing pads (cut up) work very well too, as long as they arent treated.

since you are going to use the canister, let that be your mechanical filtration and then use the sump entirely for bio-filtration. Post a pic so we know what design you are working with. If you can get a compartment to work as a wet/dry you will be much better off.

yea, i agree
you could do millions of scrubbies, they are so cheap, and one of the most effective, but you could put in some other media in if you wanted too

is eheims substrat pro suitable for a sump?
i wanna create a dry-wet part in the sump. my idea is to just make a trickling filter and put a pump in the last compartment of the sump. this pump pumps the water over the trickling and then returns it to the first compartment of the sump. the first compartment will be filled with rough spunges.
ill make some pics lateron and post them.

Here is the pic (soz for quality):

Water goes in first comp.
Then underneath to second.
Over to third and underneath again to fourth.

Any suggestions?
