Hey guys need some answers
I'm currently planning the build of a large breeding system with 10 small tanks plumbed into 1 8x2x2 sump. In the sump I plan on having filterwool then bio balls
the bio balls will be out of water and trickle feed via a tray, the rest of my planned media I'm confused on weather it needs to be submerged or not? like the bio balls will they all be better to have water flowing over it whilst out of water?
The following is what I'm looking to include in my freshwater sump

Zeolite
activated carbon
ceramic rings
crushed coral

I'm pretty sure the carbon must be submerged but what about the rest? It is freshwater too. Thanks ben

The general rule with bio balls (or even better, scrubbies), is to have 1/3 of the media above the water line, and 2/3 submerged.

I'm pretty sure the rest of your media needs to be fully submerged.

yeah i had a read of that thread however it made no mention to weather or not the media im using needs constant submersion or just constant water flow above the water level. Mind you i didnt read the whole thread, 100000000000 post of chitchat and possibly 0 related to what i wanted to know lol
