SUMP OR POWER FILTERS???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a wet/dry is the best type of filtration (unless the tank is planted) IMO.

I switched from sump systems to a sealed pressure system a long time ago. The main attraction, for some, to the sumps is the larger available area for bio media thus supporting a greater biomass. (read...overstocked)

Other conciderations are ease of maintaince, reliability, and safety. Differant filter systems excel at differant things. The concept of the 'Best' system could no doubt be argued for weeks without a solution. In my opinion the 'Best' system is the one that fits your needs with the least headache.

when I had my 3 RBPs that were 6-7" in a 65 gallon with just a peguin 350 biowheel, the ammonia and nitrite levels were a little high for 12-24 hours after feeding. I then added a wet/dry sump and never had any thing but zero levels within a few weeks of adding the sump.

With over twice the bio capacity available I would hope so.
