hi everyone,

i just built a sump and an overflow using pvc. when i was testing my overflow for power outage scenario i noticed that even after the overflow stopped the pump still kept sucking water from the tank. until the water level went below the outlet pipe. what can i do to correct this. do i have to place the outlet pipe over the water level. or is there any other way to fix this.

thank you

Don't have your outlet deep, have it above the top of the overflow

just drill a small hole in ur outlet pipe right below ur waterline that way when its shut down or power goes out, once the water drops below the hole it will let air in and be a siphon break. try a small hole and test it out, if it doesn't let enough air in u can make it a little bigger but u don't need a big hole at all and this way u can keep ur output at whatever depth u want

thats a good idea as well, i might try this. thank you

  1. Place the outlet above the water surface
  2. Place it directly below the water surface for minimum siphonage [make sure your sump can support]
  3. Drill a small hole just below the water surface to break the siphon [Same as above]
  4. Add a check valve

Check valves can get clogged, hole in over flow is best method. I split the pump discharge into two with a hole in each fail safe.
