I am in the process of sorting out the plumbing for my sump.
Having a look through some of the posts/pics on here it seems that some people have used brass gate valves on there sump pipe work.
I have ball valves for shuttting the tank flow off completely but they are not the best for fine tunning the flow of the sump and return to tank,to use PVC gate valves would be expensive in the UK as they are anywhere between £25-£40 a piece.
Does anyone see any problems with using brass gate valves joined to PVC with BSP adaptors, anybody using this combination have any input?
Thanks in Advance

This is a freshwater tank by the way as I know that saltwater will corrode brass.

i was able to fine tune my tank with ball valves.

It seems to be the general concensus that gate valves are better for balancing the flow, but I suppose i could try the ball valves and see how they go and if not OK replace with gate valves,I would use PVC gate vales but they are very expensive over here.

I did :)

This is a 1.5" brass gate valve on my Beananimal overflow system. If you're trying to tune a silent overflow system like the Herbie or Beananimal, it will be almost impossible with ball valves. Gate valves are what you want. Brass or PVC, either one will work.

That is the info I was hoping to get,the sump will be set up herbie style.I would prefer to use PVC gate valves if poss but they are stupid money over here,so brass is a cheaper option and knowing that you have done the same makes me feel better,I take it you have had no issues with anything?

None at all, and I've used a brass gate valve for almost a year in a different setup.
