Hi,

I just purchased a HUGE sump for my 550 gallon native tank. It has 3 chambers, 3 inputs and a drip tray associated to each input. The problem I am having is that the drip trays are totally enclosed. I cannot slip in and prefilter. The water just goes straight onto the drip tray then into the bio media. All the wet/dry filters I am familiar with have some sort of prefilter on the drip tray.

Is this a problem? If so, how should I prefilter?

(This is hard to explain w/o pictures, sorry) Thanks

You can place sheets of filter felt on top of your biomedia, but as it clogs it will mess up the flow pattern, so it is not ideal. If you have enough room you could place a second small sump with a couple large filter socks at a higher level than your main sump.

I agree. I was going to suggest this, but then I saw you beat me to it.
