Ok, I got my cpr overflow rated at 1500gph(I wanted overkill) but I wanted to know what size of a pump to run from my 55gal sump/refugium to the 100gal display? I plan on 3 powerheads in addition to the return. There is 4' from surface to surface of the tanks, and I know you want 10 to 20 times the volume in flow, so how.much should be from my pump and how much from my power heads? Any ideas or input is welcomed!!!!!

Me personally, I like to have a pump that will do 5-10x turnover, not counting powerheads since I don't use those. Some people like less, some like more. IMO, anything less than 5x seems too low.

I would get a Mag 18 or higher.

As far as where the flow should come from, you want to make sure there aren't dead spots in the tank(reason for the powerheads) and as much flow as possible for the overflow and pump so you can filter, oxygenate, and skim the water efficiently. I wouldn't shoot for a certain amount coming from the pump and powerheads. Just hook up a pump that maximizes the potential of the overflow box you bought. The powerheads you put in will keep the flow within the tank random and turbulent which is a very good thing. Sounds like you really are setting it up well and have a good plan.

A main pump should at least push 10x water volume per hour.

To take advantage of the overflow you have gotten, I would get the pump that had the outflow closest to 1500gph at the head of which you will be returning the water so long as it does not exceed 1500gph.

Then fill in with powerheads to deal with dead spots.
