So I was looking at building a sump, and the price of water pumps is pretty high. So I got to thinking about a sump pump. It has a shut-off float, and could pump water at a great rate ensuring high flow. I'm just worried that it might be to high. For $80 there's a sump pump with float that will run 2800gph, if the water level ever got to low it would shut down automatically. Of course I know I'd need a sump that could filter water at 2800gph as well to keep a constant flow, too. My worry is that it will burn out, as they don't run around the clock when in your basement.

What size of a tank are you doing a sump for? Also what is the wattage requirements of that sump pump your looking at?

It's a 135g oceanic with dual overflows. I'm on a single canister right now and I'd like to go sump. I'm also trying to pave the way for the 360g that is a work in progress.

I didn't think it would work, but I was curious. I also wasn't sure about the noise either.

On my 120 I have a sump with about a 900 gph pump and an fx5. Together they make a great setup.
Look at Laguna pond pumps. Good option for you to look at, I have a Rio pump for my sump and really like it. I would not use the pump your looking at, look at the pond pumps if anything and also work on a filter sock setup for your sump
