Converting my monster setuper from SW to FW and making a few mods to the sump to make it perform better that it was.

The proposed changes will hopefully force the water (4000 GPH) through the media and not just over it like was with my SW setup. I had a few design flaws that I am going to fix.

Anyways, Water will fall over the mech filter pads and into the first medi chamber. Then flow under the 2nd chamber and out and into another holding sump where it will go back through a hammerhead pump to the 4 tanks. The two media areas will be about 8 Cubic (4.5 & 3.5 sections) feet of pot scrubbies (1600 total). First off I am not sure if that is way over kill or not yet as I am expecting moderate stocking levels in all the tanks. BTW 4 display tanks (2 x 250Gal & 2 x 150Gal.) all connected to a common filtration system with 2 sumps totalling about 200 gallons of water.

I'm planning on one tank being all Cardinals/Neons (About 200), one tank will have a Trig catfish and a couple of huge tire track eels (15" average) the other two tanks I am still considering what to put in them.

So is my bio media too much or not enough I guess is my question.

Here is a picture as well. Water level is where it usually sits during normal operations.

looks good to me... what media would be in the first 2 chambers?? you could also add a fbf900 to the sump as well

looks good but you could optimize it with some wet/dry action

Ok new design with added wet/Dry section. The sections measure about 20"x23"x20" for the section directly under the overflow area. And, 10"x23"x36" for the bio tower area.

Again there is 4000 gallons of water running through this sump per hour so I am not sure if this will even work this way. Also pretty sure the 750GPH pump should be a lot bigger but again I am guessing here and thats why I am asking for help.

Will have to be this way because all the tank overflows cannot be raised any higher.

Thoughts?

i would add the fbf filters to it with all the scrubbies.... cant have too much bio

They might.. I am not sure so far everything I hear is no not really, as long as you have some good pre-filters.

BTW, what are you using for filtration on your monster setup?

i run hayward cartridges filter units #5025 ( 4 each) at 525 square feet per filter unit. i have one xl aquadyne bead filter: these are for mechanical

for bio i run two 8 feet tall bio towers... on 12 inch and the other 18 inch diameter plus 4 55 gallons drums which fill and empty for max aeration every few minutes.

the bio water is prefiltered by the mechanical filters

plus a large UV

running at 500 gpm ( 30000 gallons per hour)
