ok so i more and more everyday find myself thinking about doing a sump setup on a future tank and the question is would a all glass megaflow like these http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=13648&c=3578+3587 really be good enough for the tank size they say or do u use the rule of ok it says for up to 55gal so on my 55 i should use two? or will sumps filter what they say they will. granted i know they still need a good micanical filter too and sumps are really just great bio filters but i still think they look good when done right

They work for both bio and mecanical. (That setup would have to have sponges put in in the tray.) And the mechanical fine filter would clog very quickly. But it is much cheaper to make your own.

(Honestly even if I bought say one for the 55 I would quickly replace the bio-balls for other bio material.) And you still need to buy the pump.

yeah i agree, build your own. my 210 came with a wet dry. if not, i would have built my own, and for a fraction of the cost of the one your in your link!!

The nice thing about making your own sump is that you can make it how you want it. You don't have to design your tank around your sump, you can design the sump based on your tank.

I've got a few tanks running on wet/dry only and they're probably the clearest ones I have. If done right they can have excellent bio and mechanical filtration. Just be sure to use 2 pumps for redundancy.

If I had to choose just one filter for a tank, I would use a wet/dry. They will do mechanical and bio, if you set it up right. Oh and its probably also the cheapest, if you DIY it.

yeh definently cheaper to diy. put it this way i saw a large sump on another online shop. cost 700 AU i would of had a sump $80(includes drip tray and eggcrate), bioballz $250, 3x$15 holes, 3x $25 plumbing $85 pump = 485 minus discount 400
