I am sure this has been asked and answered before, but I am still having trouble getting my head around this things.

1. Do you have to drill holes in your tank to run a sump?
2. Just what is the biggest reason to use this filter?

I am sure I will have more questions, once these are answered.

Thanks

1. No you dont need to drill holes, you can use a HOB overflow.

2. The biggest reason to use one is because they are the best for biological filtration since the beneficial bacteria gets the most amount of oxygen.

wonderful, I really didn't want to drill holes.

I just need to find easy step by step plans on how to build one of these filters

Check the DIY section, it has plans for building everything. You can also get a wet/dry filter used for very cheap in the classifieds section. I got a used Pro Clear 75 wet/dry filter for $60 there.

if sumps work by gravity, I don't get work it will work without drilling holes????

I don't understand these things grrrrr

okay because once the siphon starts in the overflow it keeps on going because the sump is lower than the tank
