what should i put in my sump to make it biological and mechanical type of filtration for my 100G tank? cause i only have bio-balls, i think that makes it biological.. and what about mechanical? need help..
he's already got biomedia, so no need for army men, if you were serious. mechanical filtration goes before the bio part, so layers of wool or a filter sock over the pipe which brings the water to your sump will work.
where can i find a layers of wool and a filter sock? and what is that army men, is that the action figure from the game army men? sorry for the ignorance..
I usually find filter socks at most chain pet stores, and local fish stores. As for the wool I'm not sure, but I like to use felt. You can get that at just about any arts and crafts store. The plastic army men that was being referred to are small toy soldiers that you can get really cheap in decent quantities.
There are a couple of cool cheap options for you. You could go to Meijer and buy the blue furnace filter. It is only four dollars and you could cut it up and have a bunch of filters.(Thanks Mike D.) OR, you could go get some quilt batting. It is very fine filter media and it should do a great job.
