Can you make a sump for fitration without drilling holes in your tank?

yup you can thats what i did. you just need to buy or build an overflow

have the sump above the tank.

pump in the tank and then then drill the sump to overflow back to the tank.

Multiple options as stated above. Overhead sumps, DIY overflows, and hang on back overflows.
