Sump Question

I want to turn a 10g tank I have lying around into a sump for my 75g, would it be big enough? I plan on having the water be pumped in and then forced through some sort of fine mesh then some sort of foam and finally pumped back into the tank, would this work? I will still have my power filter running as well but I want to make sure there is as little waste in the tank as possible.

I made one for a friend for his 75g. It had a mag drive 350gph pump. I think it was too small. The tank seemed to be better with 2 canisters. I would do a 20g with a large amount of media if I wa to do it again

The general rule for sump size is 1/5 to 1/4 of the tank size.
