if im going to make a sump for a 125 what size tank do i need to use? my buddy says i need to use my 55, i wanna avoid this and was wondering if there were any alternative.

You could use a 29G and be fine. Whether it works or not is all about how you design it.

I have a 150 gallon with a 30 gallon tank for a sump. It has one of those plastic drawer cabinets from Walmart stuffed with scrubbies in one drawer and biomax and boiled rock rubble (from a reef I took down). I don't have any sections or anything. The pump is external. It works amazingly.

thanks guys. thats awesome wanna keep the 55 goin, not just turn it into a sump
