Im gonna get a new tank that has a sump. the sump was damages during the move so im wondering how much does it cost to get a new one because it cant be used? its a 72 bowfront
Sumps are really simple to repair in most cases. I can't imagine one bieng damaged too badly to use. What happened to it?
Can you post a couple of pics?
In other words it's a GLASS sump..or a converted Aquarium. The system you posted is a lot bigger than you need for a 72 gallon tank but it would certianly work...Check Ebay and CL however for a lot better prices.
you could make a decent one out of a cheap plastic tub. as long as you still have the bioballs and the pump, the costs are minimal. measure the stand to find out what is the biggest plastic tub you can fit into it. use the rubbermaid ones you can buy at walmart. buy some of the square plastic mesh baskets used for pond plants - walmart or a hardware store with a pond/garden section. use the baskets the same way you use a canister - mechanical media in one, charcoal in another if you want it, bioballs in a lower basket but not submerged. i used a combination of filter floss and sponge - both things bought for cheap in the sewing/fabric section. the sponge used for chair cushions is good because you can cut it to size, and it doesn't have any chemicals. you could silicone a baffle made out of the plastic lid between the filter part and the pump.
Personally I always make it a point to pay as little as possible for everything...LOL. A wet dry should be about a 1/3 to 1/5th the size of the tank. a 20 long would probubly work...or as has been suggested...a rubbermaid tub. It dosn't have to look like an aquarium to work...
