sump question

ok so i have a 75 gallon tank that needs a new filter and i was thinkin makin my own w/d
the question is wat would be a good size tank to start with? i have an extra 10 gallon lying around would that be large enough?
all the help/suggestions would be awesome
most especially because i am not too familar wit w/d filters

I think you wanna aim for something like 1/4 or 1/3 the size of the tank with between 4x and 10x turnover. But the way I see it something is better then nothing and we all gotta start off somewhere. Check the stickies for some plans on sumps and overflows, I did mine just with the pictures provided and it works great, just have some simple fine tunning left to do.

!0g is a little small but doable,be careful with your design so if the power goes off the water stops flowing before the 10g overflows
