i was thiking about pumping the sump return into a UGF, that way all the crap would be suspended all the time and pushed up towards the overflows because i have some extremely messy fish. my only concern is maybe the fish would be pushed up as well, possibly stressing them out. this would be in a 125 with around 1000gph, maybe less. would this work? suggestions

Interesting idea.It should work.I dont see that it would bother the fish.lots of people use reverse flow ugfs.

That's a good thought. As long as it isnt too much flow I dont see why it would be a problem.

As long as the tank isn't to dirty...too much feces suspended in the water isn't good for the fishes' gills either. But if you start out clean and have a good filter system it works great.

Current loving fish aren't crazy about it but most seem to adapt ( I put a power head in for some to swim against).

I think that you would have to do increased filter maintenance , instead of sucking the poo off the gravel during a water change, it would end up in your filter pads.

also a having a pump rated for 1000 gph

and getting 1000 gph out of a rugf are 2 different things
