ok i changed my plans for my marine set up and after a quick measure i have 3'' space on one side of the tank.
so i am now going to use a sump with a deltec ap600 skimmer that has the eheim pump set up.
i need to know what size holes to get drilled in the side of the tank for the inlet and outlet and also the hole for the outlet i need to know how to set it up and overflow design, pipework diameters required etc etc etc.
i also need to make a sump that will house the skimmer some media and the return pump so if anyone has a design i can use for marine it would be appreciated.
the tank is a 32''Lx32''Wx24''H and the sump can be around 24'' long max but can be 15''-18'' wide and 12-15'' high.
basically i know nothing of sump set ups especially marine i need all the info i can get, i will however be able to make whatever i need and have the ability to build the set up myself.

Your pump return will dictate what size of return you will need. It will probably be 3/4 inch but may be one inch. Your overflow bulkheads will need to be one inch each if your return is 3/4 inch. If the return is one inch, then use two 1 1/2 inch bulkheads. It does not hurt to use larger bulkheads than you really need but they start getting exponentially more expensive as you get larger than two inches. To find cheap diamond drills, do a search on eBay for "diamond drill" and look for the guy from Hong Kong. He is honest and his drills are top quality.

Another thing, all plumbing sizes should match your bulkhead sizes. Also, marine sumps are the same as freshwater sumps. You should consider adding a wet/dry and a protien skimmer. The salt for marine systems gets expensive pretty fast and the wet/dry and protien skimmer will prolong your water change intervals.

I am a numbers guy and just noticed that you already have the wet/dry and protien skimmer. By drilling the tank, you will probably be missing the mechanical filtration provided by a box overflow. That is easily corrected if the wet/dry does not have provisions already. All you have to do is add a layer of quilt batting to the drip tray over the bio-media.

keep us posted.
