So I use a standard 55gal as sump for my 150 (6ftx18"x30"). I run 2x 7" filter socks for mechanical and I had 5 gallons of pond matrix in mesh bags piled up around an egg crate cage surrounding my pump intake. Seen here

Not ideal and no intended to be permanent. It was a pain in the ass having a bunch of bags, and obviously allowed for water to bypass the matrix.

Here is new set up:

I used these plastic storage boxes as they are perfect size for sump and held a lot of volume:

Added a bulkhead and union and plumbed to pump intake. No bypass, much cleaner set up and easily removable one tray at a time for rinsing if needed. I drilled a couple hundred 5/8 holes in bottom of tope 2 trays and added a piece of egg crate for rigidity as that much media is pretty heavy.

I was very pleased with these storage boxes, they fit together remarkably well and have little latches on each end.

This set up can be used with many media options, I was thinking about adding a 4th box on top with sponge to keep my bio media even cleaner. Can be a wet dry tower too i suppose
