i have a 150 gallon tank with dual overflows. 8 blue ziere fronts and 2 live caught blue ziere fronts that look great. then i have 15 peacocks which are 3 different types then 3 bristlenose 3 gold nuggets and 6 white and orange band trouphes and 5 blue dolphines. i do water changes every week at 30-40% and all my water test are always looking great. my tank has a 40 gal sump which before my sump there is a tank that all my water goes thru a 100 micron bag as a prefilter before the water gets to my sump. then in my sump i have 3 200 watt heaters, filter floss about 4 " of it then bio balls the 4 bags of carbon and ammonia flakes that my water gets pushed thru before it goes back to the tank. my return pump is 1450 gph. I see on here people will have a large sump and then on top of that will have canister filters to assist in the filtration. is that something that i will need look in to for my setup. i currently have 2 100 micron bags that i rotate every 4 days while i wash the other. i am just new to the sump setup

Other than the carbon not being necessary, seems like you have it covered. the extra filters are there to typicall give the water a little more polshing. With you 100 micron bags, you should be good to go.

it isnt needed but it is always good to have a back up, just encase something happens to one of the filters...

but a lot of people run just a sump as long as they are setup properly, it sounds like yours is.

I have two returns in my tank with a separate pump for each. One of the pumps is plugged into a battery backup. That arrangement manages two kinds of failure. If a pump fails, the other will keep the system going. If there is a power failure, the pump plugged into the backup unit will buy me some time.

i still run a HOB with my sump just in case my sump pump takes a dump on me. Gives me enough time to go O S*** better put a new pump in the sump. Mostly for peace of mind. I also keep a spare HOB on hand.

WOW you like alot of heaters lol i run 1 250 watt visotherm on my 150 keeps it at 81 degrees F but i have a second set at 78 just in case the main fails to maintain the temp.
