Sump Size

I have got an 800g/h pump for my 120 gal tank. Im wanting to build a sump for it.

What surface area of foam would I need as a minimum to allow 800g/h to pass freely through?

I think a lot depends on the type of foam you are using. I am using Poret Foam that is 20 and 30 ppi and I have about 1500 gph flowing through it with no issues. The surface area of my foam is 19.5 x 19.5, just over 380 square inches.

Great, thank you. Then the sump design I had in mind will be more than capable. Now to finish the actual tank ;-)
