Hi all,

I've had a look at the stickies but couldn't find anything regarding this...

What size sump is ideal for an 8x2x2 ? I will be growing out peacock bass, stingrays and some other cichlids etc.

I see a lot of 2x1.5x1.5 sumps around but assume I will need something more like a 4x1.5x1.5 ??

Was gonna go with around 8000 lph turnover too is that ok?

Hey, the larger the better is a simple answer, but with a tank that size a 55 gallon would work fine but for a little more room a 75 would be nice.

mine is 4'x2'x1' and my tank is about the same size, but different dimensions. only running half that turnover though.

also depends how you load the tank and if youre adding additional filtration like reactors or bed filters etc. I have a 300 gal 72x36x27 with the aqueon proflex 4 sump. + chemical reactor and fluidized bed

The best size is the biggest size sump that can fit underneath your tank. I wanted to use a 100g tank to use as my sump, but none of the ones I saw could fit in my stand. So I ended up using a 55g tank as a sump. Its still a huge place for bio and fits about 4-5x as much bio as my fx5 could.

Btw I would recommend using a tank and making that a sump instead of buying a premade glass or acrylic sump. Using your own tank will give you a much bigger sump. I'd also recommend going with a setup that uses a filter sock instead of filter pads. Filter socks keep the water a lot cleaner and have much less bypass imo.
