shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I want to build a sump tank for a 350 gal tank. The tank has african cichlids. Any ideas on how big the sump should be? I have never built one before and want to make sure I do a good job on it. I plan to have the first chamber with mechanical filtration. In the second I plan to use some carbon. I know most people dont use it but this tank has a problem with the water getting dirty and I want it clean. The third chamber I plan to fill with bioballs, but Im not sure exactly how many Id need. Also, since this is for african cichlids, I want to include some crushed coral to keep up the pH, but am not sure how to calculate how much Id need for a 350gal.

They say the ratio for a sump is 1/3
So I guess a 116gl

I have a 300 and have a 50gl sump (temp only) full to the top with bioballs and the bottom is ceramic rings but will be doing something diff on my sump pretty soon.

Going to have a sump with 2 2" elbows falling down to a 100gl grow out tank with my pump pushing the water back to the 300. So when my fish are big enough for the 300/tankmates I just have to catch them:naughty:
Looking at probly a 60-75gl sump with just bioballs/ceramic rings;)
