About how much turnover is good with a sump? I have a 780 GPH (at 0 head) pump, and my tank is 75 gallons. Is 10x more than I should have? Or is a ton of flow better for the bacteria to grow? I was just curious because I see that a lot of people have much smaller pumps compared to their tank volume.

The strong current is nice, though. :)

I am for 3-5X turnover on my tanks with decent sized wet/dry filters. Anything more is not necessary IME.

Would a smaller pump work better, then?

a larger pump certainly doesn't hurt, but I'm guessing that you'll have less that 5x turnover from your pump after you take restriction losses into consideration.
