Newer to aquariums in general. Currently have a canister filter system on my 55 gallon cichlid tank. Have a 300 gallon tank I'm currently looking at setting up was wanting some input on which I should use. How exactly do dumps work?

Thanks, Tyler

The canister is probably fine on the 55g... but for a 300g go with a sump.

A "dump" is basically a sump sitting on top of your tank: You pump water to it and allow it to fall back to the tank via gravity.

Here's mine

I've been meaning to try something like this with one of those little stack drawers...I don't think a canister can beat a sump when it comes to bio filtering but a good canister can be hard to beat at keeping the tank clean.

How big is the tank?

Sump. I put a 75 gallon on my 300 and couldn't be happier.

Canisters are great but not nearly as cost effective as a sump for a larger tan.

Yeah I have a 75 gallon that was previously set up with this tank as a refugium (it was saltwater). But there aren't many helpful aquarium stores around. Any advice?
