Its getting close to build time and i still have not decided wether or not im going to run a huge pvc custom canister filter, or a sump.

Im getting a pump from work that was replaced. Its rated at approx 10000 litres an hour. My plan is to use this to filter the tank. I have a 6.5" pvc thats 48" long. I plan on using as my canister if i go down that route.

I have a spare 50 gallon i can convert to a sump aswell. Any opinions please.

I have a sump, but I'm about to switch to canister I really just hate my tank being drilled and having huge over flows.

I have both and prefer sumps...maintenance is easy(just switch out filter socks), they're easily upgradable(via a larger pump), and they're easy to customize to suit your needs.

I agree. They are extremely customizable. For overflows you could do PVC so you don't have to drill your tank. I would do a sterilite drawer on egg crate sitting in the 50 gallon tank. Then after it drains through that I would do a K1 in the tank with maybe 2 power heads to move the K1 around.

well, the pvc you have has 1593 cubic inches of space inside, the 50G has 6912. you can put a lot more media in the tank. I filled mine with 50% poret foam and 50% alfa grog and pond matrix.
