Longears are cool like that, they can come in a variety of colors. I have 2 that are red, 1 that is orange. The two with that are red have red fins as well, the orange one has white fins that are lined with a blue line. The one in the picture has an orange bottom fin. Yours is pretty cool how it has spots. It looks like its young, maybe when it matures some the color will spread over it's fins more.
It looks to me that it's a pure Longear and not a mix, someone else might differ though.

It's a redbreast sunfish, AKA shellcracker, Lepomis auritus. They are similar to longears, but the longear does not have the colored fin margins, and usually has white on the edge of the dark "ear". Yours is a male; females and non-breeding males have yellow fin margins.

I totally agree and would like to add I have never seen one with so much red in before.....very nice! I would give him some driftwood and rocks in the aquarium and Im sure he will feel right at home. Ive always wanted to make a Redbreast/ Green hybrid just to see what it would look like.
