Caught this little group today while netting....the first one is a bluegill I think (caught 7 of these), the other one puzzles me(caught 2 of them)...pumpkinseed maybe? Can anyone confirm this?

If those are really mostly bluegill I'll probably have to thin down to just a few of them since they do get bigger than the average sunny. Pix taken in their temporary container, before they move on to a diff. tank.

1st fish is most likely a Blue Gill, there is plenty of info on this sight and others on the captive care (think oscar)

The the other fish is most likely a blue spotted sunfish

get yourself some frozen blood worms, and frozen brine shrimp

they are timid fish, they do well in heavily planted tanks, i do have a few that have taken to very small floating pellets, it took a very long time to get them on them though.

also it looks like you caught an adult. They dont get a whole lot bigger that that

Thanks for the info! :)

Just finished moving them into my 12g nano, since that's my most heavily planted tank. All the little bluegills are clustered within my one cryptocoryne (spelling??) plant, and the blue spotted one is exploring the rock caves.. I'm tempted to get a couple more of those blue spotteds if that's all the bigger they get, they seem to be a pretty interesting fish.

I'll try feeding them some bloodworms tonight.:D

that BANDED SUNFISH is a lucky catch.

it does not apear to be a bluespotted

I'm not qualified to distinguish between a bluespotted sunfish and banded, but it does look like it could possibly be a banded.

Banded sunfish are endagered in PA and you're not allowed to possess them without a special permit. Not sure about bluespotted. If you look up your area you should be able to see which one most likely inhabits your area.

You should really I.D. fish BEFORE you take them home for this reason.

The others do look like juvie bluegill. I'm not sure if you're supposed to be netting them in PA, I think they're considered gamefish. (unless you got them out of a private pond or something).
