If you end up using live, use quill bobbers. They work great for monster, easily spooked, 'gills.

For artificial, a fly rod with an assortment of flies is for sure the best way to go.
 
yea sunnies aka bluegills, crappie, shellcracker are easily caught on live bait or "real" baits. but i like a challenge, fly rod would be ideal, but i'll stick with some roadrunners, small sunfish tubes, and small worms around 2".
 
small spinners are good. also try small plugs. sunfish r not picky... just cast and real relatively fast and theyll hit out of curiosity. dont bother jiggin or anything... just straight realing it in.

My favourite way to catch sunfish is on fly, use little popper flies (chug bugs) they loooove those...
