Has anyone purchased replacement Sunsun HW302 media lately? Reason I ask is, I recently mail-ordered what was advertised as a pack of "16 coarse blue sponges", which I've bought lesser amounts of over the years from other sources. What I received was a box of 16 white, coarse and very stiff floss media pads. Stiff like Brillo-pad pot scrubber material. I messaged the seller right away and explained the situation. He apologized, told to me to keep what they sent and he'd get the blue foam sponges out to me right away. What did I get days later? A box of blue coarse/stiff floss pads, identical to the white, but dyed blue!! Emailed the seller again and he said it is what it is, that's what he sells. He had me keep it and refunded my money. All I wanted was foam sponge and now I've got 32 brillo-pads.

Question is, does anyone run this stiff stuff in your canisters? I'm not familiar with it at all.

All I use in my Sunsuns now are ceramic rings and Poly-fil....none of the original media

I really like the coarse foam sponges and run 2-3 of them stacked in the bottom and middle trays, then various bio media up top. I like the sponge because it's so easy to rinse and reuse. I have no idea if this new stuff I got will hold up and/or be reusable.

I used the wrong terminology above. The pads that I was sent look and feel like Scotch brite pads, not Brillo.

I stuff Poly-fil into the bottom tray and the top 3 trays are ceramic rings. I trash the soiled Poly-fil during maintenance. Stuff is really cheap so its not a problem. Works great and water is super clear

I have the stiff stuff in my 302 and I don't like it. Idk if it doesn't catch anything or what but evertime I clean the filter the pads are still clean so I'm thinking that it's not that great for mechanical filtration.

Thanks Deven. Since I've got it, I might try several layers of it in the middle and bottom trays of one of my 302s and see how it goes. I'm just a little gun shy in attempting another "blue sponge" order online and winding up with more of this scotch-brite stuff.

Tell me about it, I probably have like 30 of them that I don't want to use lol

Deven, was it the same deal for you where you ordered foam sponge and got these instead? LOL, I've got enough for years and it didn't cost me a dime. Like I say, these are not the fluffy floss pads, they're dense and firm. I feel bad for the seller and didn't request a refund at all. He just threw in the towel and gave me my money back. Poor guy lost his arse on the deal with shipping and all.

Yes it was the same deal but when I opened it and saw that it was different I just sucked it up and didn't bother contacting the seller. But hey at least yours were free lol
