Here's an interesting new video comparing these 2 popular canister filters. I think it's a pretty objective review -- which is one reason Ben Ochart is one of my favorite aqua YouTubers, he's pretty down-to-earth and has a pleasant character/presentation style.

Even with the unxexpected ending he still maintains that of course the Fluval is the better canister filter, though he also rightly raises the issue of cost-for-value, which is why the Sunsun is also so popular. And while I doubt Sunsun will ever catch up to Fluval quality wise, they have gotten quite a bit better in recent years.

Personally I'd love to have a FX-6 (I currently have 2 X Sunsun 704a's), but they're not available here, and for the price to bring one in from overseas I could (really) buy a brand new custom 200 gallon tank.

Thx for input Galantspeedz -- agreed the Jebao line is probably a bit better quality than Sunsun, but not significantly so imho. I've seen them at Chatuchak but there isn't a huge selection for some reason, Sunsun and Atman are easier to find, esp. in larger models. Atman has a couple of model lines that are also arguably a bit better quality than Sunsun too.

Another issue is that the biggest Jebao filter I could find (online), the 404, is only 1,200 l/hr, compared to the Sunsun's 2,000 l/hr. If anything I'd want to get the newish Sunsun 3000, which has a digital display with flow control rate (but I'm waiting for them to be out a year or two more so they work out any possible issues like with many brand new models that come out).

If I was really looking to go up (at least locally) there's a small but good shop in Chatuchak called SeasSun Aquarium, maybe you've seen it before and they also have an online shop) that also carries Eheim and Oase canister filters, but they're pretty pricey.

In fact though I'm quite happy with the Sunsun 704's so far, no issues at all, they're doing they're job and putting out a good flow rate (helpful for water distribution in 7ft. tanks), even with a pre-filter and 4 trays filled to capacity with good Eheim and Ocean Free bio media.

Thanks for the video. I thought it was a pretty good comparison.

I’m also a SunSun fan. I run the 303B on my son’s 29 gallon tank. It is very quiet. I’ve also had the intake tube come loose and let the filter run dry for over half a day before. I hooked it back up, reprimed it, and it took right off again.

One of my $75 Sunsun 304b, finally burnt out after 5 years, so I'd just recently picked up another one off Amazon for $85. The other 5 year old 304b is still doing fine. I'd say I got my money's worth.
