I can maybe understand the phosphate pads to control algae but is there really any use for an ammonia removal filter pad in a normal setup? Wouldn't that just starve your beneficial bacteria? Or do they intend that you use these in place of biological filtration? Anyone know how long they are supposed to last? I'm thinking maybe an emergency start up tank where there is no time to cycle but another tank can be cycling as you keep your fish in the ammonia scrubbed tank. Any experience or knowledge would be appreciated.

just a selling point, don't use them. I love my sun sun filters but I don't use any fancy bells and whistles with them.

Yea, I've been using my SunSuns for about 5 years now. Just a blue pad and a Pinky in the bottom tray and lava rock in all the other trays. It's just that I saw these pads while looking to maybe buy another filter and I can't help but think about what they might have been intended for or if there is any real world use that anyone has come up with.
