IN A PLACE
I bought an L91 about 6months ago, quarantined him, and put him in my 175g community tank. He is about 8-9" long. This guy has been unbelievable. He sucks on smaller plecos, spars with an L14 that is 3"+ bigger than him, and most recently been eating the slime coat off of my 20" fire eel. Water quality is good, there is plenty of wood work and territory for all, and they get feed plenty of food and a varied diet (my L75's look like they are pregnant!)
It is a bummer but I removed him from the tank and placed him in a 20g for the time being.

Has anyone had an experience with this species or any pleco where their aggression was curbed after a "time-out"? The realist in me says no way. But, I was hoping someone found a way to curb aggression--well, at least the sucking on other fish part.
I would hate to sell him but I really don't have time or space to house it separately.

Even though they are fed well sounds like he still hasnt recieved the right diet for him?? Maybe there is another food source he is needing? Just a thought.

L91 can be aggresive.. but if find plecos to fight mainly because of hiding space issues... If u dont have enough.. then.. chances of fighting increases.. Make sure to have covering.. driftwood will do.. along with a few pleco caves... Hope things work out for you..

Btw.. got pictures of this L91 and ur L14? love to see pics of them both! ;)

Yes L-91's can be buggers. Some of the larger plecs just don't play nice with each other. Nothing you are doing wrong or nothing you can do sometimes. May have to seperate them as L-91's have the artillery to kill another pleco or fish if they want to.

There's a lot of spaces of wood and stone. Everyone is happy except this guy. He has been totally stressed since I put him in the qt tank. He started eating some garlic soaked cucumber. Here is a pic of him lurking...basically, he hides all the time right now which is to be expected. It is tough to get him to smile but if you use your imagination, you can see its evil eye! Also, here is a pic of my female L14..Even at 12"++ she is a wimp..

I have had plecos change their attitude when moved from tank to tank but it's not a method to rely on. I've also had new plecos pick fights with established plecos. So, nothing is for sure.

Is that the fire eel in the background of the L14 pic (and behind the cory)?

Yes, that is Mike Roberti, our 18"+ fire eel. He won't eat anything except market shrimp! (Luck for the cory cats)
