hmmm, if you go large you wont be able to fit much in there with out being overstocked as they grow up. when they do grow up they may eliminate each other in time.
if aggression is what you want maybe grammodes as they grow slow and are pretty aggressive. salvini can be ornry, heck ...convicts and neets are mean little guys.
just depends on how many fish you want to stock as to what you get. for sure dont go out and get dovii, buttis, devils and the such at a small size and expect them to co habitate for life in a 125....it wont happen.

if you want aggression get some caribe piranha like 7 or 8 and you will be so happy you did.

your gonna get a lot of mixed opinions on this, you could probably keep 2-4 larger cichlids in there but you may be better off with a pair of larger cichlids purely because a pair will generally get along better than a few random large cichlids.

A 125 seems like a large tank till you get a few 12"+ cichlids in there, but when it comes down to it keep what you like because that's what this hobby is about.

Hello!! If I wanted to talk about other options aside from SA/CA cichlids I would have posted this in a different forum. Thanks for the advice though, but I think I'll stick with some real fish!

I would do one parachromis like a freddy, motag, or jag, a midas, a vieja of some kind like an argentea, maybe a trimac?? Four or five that are not too closely related and you should be able to pull it off.
