I have a 150 gal with CL discus and a dat I plan on adding more CL and discus. I have a fx5 on the tank. And also a marine land canister rated for 100 gal I want to thro it on the tank. To help keep it clean now if I used this filter as a polisher to catch all small debri and stuff what is the best media to use ?

Add a bunch of bio media in there, and then also throw in some purigen... the purigen will help you polish your water in a matter of days if its really dirty...

just use a uv and add filter wool to remove small particulates to get best clarity, there are lots of products that will help but i use these too :)

^ Depends on the filter's flow... you basically need to check the UV's GPH rating, and then select a filter that would be most suitable for it...

I would say you can either get a larger UV unit to handle that type of flow, or you could get a smaller UV unit and a new filter that doesnt produce as much flow...

The reason is the slower the flow through the UV, the more bacteria and algae it can kill... And with 750gph, you will likely need a UV unit at around 40W+ and still may not be as effective as having say a filter that pumps around 100gph with with 20W UV...

So researching brands and doing a price comparison will help...

Also make sure its a UV sterilizer so it can help kill parasites in the water, as some UV systems are designed more towards killing free floating algae and not much else...

or you could put a "tee" on your fx5 return and send a slower rate of water through the UV unit. When I had my 175g discus tank, I used a small, 8watt aquauv unit that was dirt cheap and it worked great. Also used purigen since discus are supposedly sensitive to carbon

The best polishers are HOB's..............I use Aqua Clear poer filters as polishers.............In have two on my 125g.........
