Do you guys kill ur worms first before feeding it to ur aro? like freezing them quickly. i feel like the worms, esp superworms might eat thru the aro's stomach or give it a stomach infection.

I dont know if the stomach acid in their stomach can instantly kill them.

I've heard of them eating through chameleon stomach's before. I don't know about freezing. Do you think he'd go for wax worms? They're like fat mealworms without the shell. They must taste better too going buy the usual responses to them. - N

I've thought about wax worms and the other worms that look similar but can only find them in bulk and online, wouldn't want to waste it if my fish don't take to it.

I feed my fish the worms alive, my old aro lived 17yrs with no problems with SW being the main part of it's diet. Now I actually stuff my SW with Hikari carnisticks so they're dead.

When they get bigger (12" plus), you don't have to really worry. They usually use their bony tongue to crush the superworms before consuming it. Their tongue is very powerful and makes the superworms' hard-body shell look like nothing. As well, their sharp teeth can cut a superworm in half. I've seen my 18" jardini done it a dozen times. All it needs to do is grab one and with one quick snap of its head, the worm is cut in half. I bought 1000 superworms for my 18" jardini a few month ago, it ate at least 800 of them. Nothing went wrong, except it didn't want to eat anything else for the a long..long time.
Oh yeah, superworms can't swim and drown rather quickly in water!

Give it a try, I had an archer that would spit out a lighter for wax worms. Going by the reaction, they must taste pretty good - N

You don't have to kill the superworms before feeding.. As stated by yanfloist, they drown rather quickly in water.. Even if they don't drown as quick, the aro will shred them in seconds..

I've been feeding my Aro super worms for about a year now and never had problems. You don't need to kill them. I think it might actually be better to gut load the super worms with veggies and other high protein food and feed it live.

Your Aro shouldn't have any problems with swallowing or digesting them. Mine will eat a worm and be ready for another one 2 seconds later. Worms and shrimp are probably most Aros favorite foods.
